Are You One of These?

   FORLORN

The coffin lay
on the tiled floor
of the crematorium.
forlorn and withered

The lace and silk
adorns the body
pale and peeling like parchment.

Husband is at home
keeping company
to a lonely house.

No use crying over
spilt milk.
Life must go on
as it used to be.

Son and daughter
sit far from her
eagerly waiting
to finish things over.

Mourners observe time
to go home
to resume their work
 half done.

All wait
for a close relative to come.

A car door opens.
A man gets out and
hurries to the coffin.

 Mutters a few
 comforting words
to the son, standing.

The hot fire
embraces the woman!
A sigh of relief

from the son!
Now he can resume
 his thesis writing!

  1. The reality bites.
This is the reality with most of the cases.
People are too busy fighting their own struggles.
to worry about the bridges burned.
    When money talks,
    ideology walks.

    1. Here comes Dude, the poet. This was based on a true incident and I was restless until I wrote this poem. I wanted to see the reactions of u all and glad to see that u agree with me.

  2. This is the bitter reality. As people are running in this rat race they forget about their families, their responsibilities and even the fact that they are humans, not machines. Its money, fame and power that they are running after. It is only when they are old and feeble that they understand the importance of a caring family. It is only then that they will realize that they have neglected so many important things in their lives. this definitely does not apply to all but to some who only see the importance of materialistic things.

    1. Yes, Chams. How can you be so insensitive to stay at home without saying good bye to your wife for the last time? It moved me a lot and this was the result of that feeling.

  3. This is the harsh truth in the modern world. When people start to run the race most of them loose their soul, forget the parents who brought them up. I personally know of a wealthy 'son' who didn't get 'time' to attend his father's funeral at home country.. That's the reality..

    1. Yes. I have noticed the more you become rich or educated, the less you feel about others. Not all but some. I have also noticed poor and middle class tend to care for each other, especially their parents.
